Summer in Alaska - July and August 2026
Settling in on my small off grid property in Ninilchik, AK and working a variety of adventurous jobs. From a peony farm to a food truck to pitching halibut from commercial boats at the docks in Homer! I also hosted my Mom for unforgettable trips to Kenai Fjords National Park, Katmai National Park, Seldovia, AK and,of course, the Salty Dawg on the Homer Spit! Other adventures included camping on the Homer Spit, kayaking in Kachemak Bay and camping on the beach, and volunteering at KBBI in Homer and getting back 'on air' after nearly 30 years!
Naknek-Bristol Bay, AK June - July 2026
Working the salmon run on the tendering boat F/V Namorada. The Bristol Bay salmon run is the largest wild sockeye salmon migration in the world. The tendering boat takes the catch from the fishermen, weighs it and issues a ticket that is later used to pay them. We then take the catch to the processor on shore, unload it with a fish pump, clean the fish holds and head back out to load more fish. We eat and sleep on the boat in tight quarters and never get off the boat during the busy season. Being summer in Alaska, it is daylight most of the time, but the few hours of dusk transitioning to dawn are remarkably beautiful! And it's quite common to see bears coming down the bluff to shore in search of a meal.

​Recently, I found myself reminiscing about the personal webpages of the early internet in the 1990s. I loved them! It was a space people used to share their personality, their interests, 'cool links' to websites they loved, and so much more. Instead of a profile page on a social media site that is preformatted and awash with suggested content, personal webpages were an artistic creation and a real reflection of their designer and curator.

This page is the result of those musings. It's a place for me to share myself on my own terms with anyone who knows or has known me. I plan to update it regularly and share my pictures, favorite music, adventures and anything else that feels like it has a place here. --- Wes
